Official Contest Rules
"Lock in the Fare" · No purchase necessary · Void where prohibited
1. Sponsor
The Contest is sponsored and administered by Black Top & Checker Cabs (the "Sponsor"), located at 1355 Vernon Drive, Vancouver, British Columbia. RiLo ("Ride Local") is the taxi-hailing application operated by the Sponsor. The Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Apple, Google, Meta, or any kiosk or game-platform provider.
2. Eligibility
The Contest is open only to individuals who, at the time of entry, are legal residents of British Columbia and have reached the age of majority in British Columbia (19 years of age).
The following are not eligible: employees, drivers, contractors, agents, and representatives of the Sponsor and of any company involved in the development, production, or administration of the Contest, and the immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their spouses) and household members of each. The Contest is void wherever prohibited or restricted by law.
3. Contest Period
The Contest runs from Saturday, June 27 @ 9:00 AM PDT to August 31 at 11:59 PM PDT, Pacific Time (the "Contest Period"), and/or during the in-person RiLo activation events listed at myrilo.ca/win. The Sponsor's computer clock is the official timekeeper for the Contest.
4. How to Enter
No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. Downloading or using the RiLo app does not improve your chance of winning.
To enter, visit a participating RiLo event during the Contest Period, play "Lock in the Fare" on the RiLo kiosk, lock in your fare, and provide your name and a valid email address and/or mobile number. This is your entry.
Entry limit: One (1) entry per person. Entries that are late, incomplete, illegible, generated by script or automated means, or that otherwise do not comply with these Rules are void. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned.
5. How the Game Works & How Winners Are Determined
"Lock in the Fare" is an interactive game played purely for fun at the RiLo kiosk; how you play has no effect on your chance of winning. You are entered by submitting your name and email address (and/or mobile number) at the kiosk during the Contest Period.
Winners will be selected by random draw from among all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
6. Prizes
There is one (1) grand prize available: free RiLo rides for one (1) month, up to a maximum value of $1,000 CAD. The total approximate retail value (ARV) of the prize is $1,000 CAD.
Prize terms: The prize is awarded as RiLo ride credit applied to the winner's RiLo account, valid only within RiLo's Metro Vancouver service area, up to the total prize value of $1,000 CAD. The credit is valid for one (1) month from the date it is issued and in any event must be used by October 31, 2026; any credit unused by that date is forfeited. The prize has no cash value, is non-transferable, and may not be combined with other offers. Any applicable taxes and all costs not expressly stated as included are the sole responsibility of the winner. The prize must be accepted as awarded. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the advertised prize becomes unavailable.
7. Odds of Winning
The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
8. Winner Selection, Notification & Claim
Winners will be determined during the week of September 1, 2026. The selected entrant will be notified by email and/or text/phone using the contact details provided, within five (5) business days of selection. To claim the prize, the selected entrant must respond, confirm eligibility, and set up a RiLo account in the app so the ride credit can be applied — all within five (5) business days of notification. The ride credit must be used by October 31, 2026. If a selected entrant cannot be reached, declines, is found ineligible, or does not comply with these Rules, the prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate eligible entrant.
9. Publicity & Consent
Except where prohibited, and only with the entrant's consent obtained at the time of claim, a winner agrees that the Sponsor may use the winner's first name, city of residence, photograph, and/or statements about the Contest for advertising and publicity purposes in any media, without further notice or compensation. A winner may decline such use without affecting their right to the prize.
10. General Conditions & Limitation of Liability
By entering, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Rules and by the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding in all matters relating to the Contest. To the fullest extent permitted by law, entrants release the Sponsor, its affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, and service providers from any liability for loss, harm, damage, cost, or expense arising from participation in the Contest or the acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize.
The Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, or undeliverable entries or communications, or for any technical, hardware, software, network, kiosk, or other failure of any kind. If the Contest cannot run as planned due to causes including infection by computer virus, tampering, fraud, technical failure, or any cause that corrupts the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, suspend, or modify the Contest, and to award any prizes by random draw from among eligible, non-suspect entries received up to the time of the impairment.
11. Governing Law
The Contest and these Rules are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Entrants agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to the Contest will be resolved by the courts of British Columbia.
12. Privacy
Personal information collected through the Contest is handled in accordance with the Privacy Notice below and the Sponsor's general Privacy Policy. Information is used to administer the Contest and is disclosed only as described. The Sponsor's privacy practices comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What we collect
Depending on how you enter, we may collect:
Your name;
Your email address and/or mobile number;
The event, location, and date of your entry;
For kiosk entries: limited technical information such as device or browser type, IP address, and time stamps.
We collect only what we need to run the Contest. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of majority.
Why we collect it
To administer the Contest — verify eligibility, determine and contact winners, award prizes, and keep records required by law;
To detect and prevent fraud or abuse of the Contest; and
Only if you opt in: to send you RiLo news, offers, and ride credits by email and/or text message.
Your consent
By entering, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information for the Contest purposes described above. Marketing communications require a separate, optional opt-in. You can withdraw marketing consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, replying STOP to any text, or contacting our Privacy Officer — without affecting your entry.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us operate the Contest and our communications — for example, Squarespace, which provides our website and email platform. These providers act on our instructions, under contract, and only as needed to provide their service. We process the personal information collected for this Contest only in Canada. We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep Contest entries only as long as needed to run the Contest and to meet legal, tax, and record-keeping requirements, after which the information is securely deleted or de-identified 12 months after the Contest ends. Information you provide for marketing is kept until you withdraw consent.
How we protect it
We use reasonable physical, organizational, and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect it against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
Your rights
Under BC PIPA and PIPEDA, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You may also ask questions or make a complaint to our Privacy Officer. Frequently Asked Questions
-
When you book a ride, the app shows a fixed rate fare based on the distance to your destination. That's the price you pay at drop-off.
-
Your fare is based on the distance of your route, locked at the time you book. No flag rate. No wait time charges. No minimum fare. No surge multiplier. One price, one number, locked.
-
No. Wait time and traffic delays don't change your fare. You pay for the distance you travel, and that's it.
-
No minimum. Short trips are priced as short trips. You're not penalized for needing a quick ride.
-
It shouldn't happen, but if it does: automatic refund, no questions. We honour the lock. Always.
-
Once you’ve downloaded the app and entered your destination, choose your vehicle by scrolling through the vehicles and tapping the wheelchair accessible option. We have 36 WAV vehicles in the fleet with priority dispatch.
-
Yes. Tap the "Schedule" button on the right of the “Request for now” button when booking a ride.
-
Call dispatch at 604-731-1111 right away with your booking number. The faster we hear from you, the faster we can flag the driver and recover your item.
Booking number can be found in the app. Open the side menu on the top left corner of the screen. Click “My rides” then go to “Completed” tab. Click the destination you just completed and scroll up to see the booking number in blue.
-
Three things. One, our fares are locked at booking and you’re only charged for the distance travelled. No surge, ever. Two, our drivers are licensed taxi drivers, not gig contractors. Three, we're local. The dispatch line is staffed by people in Vancouver, the fleet is owned in Vancouver, and the fares stay in Vancouver.
-
Since you only pay for the distance travelled, trips with RiLo are considerably cheaper.
At peak times, like weekend nights, weather events, rush hour, RiLo is significantly cheaper because we don't surge. The bigger point is predictability: you always know what the ride costs before you book.
